Trip to Juneau, Alaska (Part 2)

OK, I have been in Alaska almost 48 hours now and I have already worn my niece out! She is laying on the couch just a snoozing! But before I get into why she is taking a nap at this time of day, I need to back up to yesterday!
I was up at 0430 Alaska time, that is 0730 back home in Mississippi! I got about 4 hours of sleep, but I may told ya'll that in the last post. Anyway, my brother came in from work and caught a nap. Around lunch time we gathered up and headed to the SUV. Bert has been in Juneau for a week now and says that all he has seen is the children's park! ARGH!!!!
So, we headed right straight for Mendanhall Glacier! And what an awesome thing it was to see. It was about 60 degrees and overcast out side, so we did need jackets. Course, with my having come from 90 degrees temperatures, I really needed the jacket. I was COLD!

Once we arrived at the welcome center, we looked around a bit and then discovered that we could walk almost all the way to the foot of the glacier! But even from as far away as we were, you could see the deep blue color in the large piece of ice. We were told that the water was about 36 degrees and they even had a piece that had broken off sitting right there at the center for us to look at! It was a wonderful walk and beautiful scenery.

As we were walking up to the waterfall, we saw a bear in the top of a tree. Look closely at the picture below and you will see the dark bear in the tree. If you can't, then click on the picture and go look at a larger copy of it.

The waterfall was beautiful..... and COLD. I thought I would get as close as I could to it. And like my brother, do a bit of horsing around myself.

Then we walked back up to the visitors center and found a few trails on the other side of the parking lot.

When we saw this bend in the trail, Bert wanted to set up the next shot. They both had fun rehearsing it and then doing it!

Once again, my comedian brother had to goof around when I asked them to stop and look at me.

We were a bit tired after all the walking we had done around the falls and glacier, so we headed back to the hotel, grabbed dinner and settled down for the night.
This morning started at 0500 with the alarm. Bert needed to fly to El Paso for some class he needs to take. Taylor and I dropped him off, just to have to turn around and go back and get him. His plane was delayed and so he wanted breakfast! We did breakfast and took him back to the airport. Taylor and I then came back to the room for a few minuets to decide where and what we were going to do and see.
After looking at different things, I decided that we would do the same thing that I do on my motorcycle.....let's see where this road goes!! We crossed that river onto Douglas Island and went exploring! I saw this sign that said something about a ski lodge and turned onto it.

On the way up I saw this creek and just had to stop to take a look. My niece, Taylor, has not been brought up where she could go exploring in a woody area. She was very nervous about getting out in the Forrest, but once there......she didn't want to leave!
After spending a little time climbing around near the creek, we moved up the road. I caught a sign out of the corner of my eye and turned around to take a look.

After our trek through the blog we started our driver back down the mountain. On the way, we saw some trails and just had to stop and check them out!

Needless to say, we had a GREAT day! We came down from the mountain and grabbed some lunch. My deal with Taylor was the if she went exploring with me, I would take her to the park. So after lunch we went to the park. But by this time she was a bit worn out and cranky. So after about 1 1/2 hours we came back to the hotel. She is taking a nap now, and I am just chillin'. I have no idea what we are going to do tomorrow, just that we are going to do more exploring!
