Civilian Volunteer Corp
Having been a civilian contractor in Iraq 3 times for a total of 2 years, my ears perked up when, in The State of the Union Address, I heard President Bush mention creating a Civilian Volunteer Corp. He didn't get into the details of the Civilian Crop, other that it would be lke your Military Reserves.
When I heard that statement, I automatically had MANY questions. What kind to trained civilians are we talking about? Security personnel type, or are we talking about workers that cover all kinds of jobs, from driving trucks to cooking food? Would they be kept on a type of ''retainer' while waiting to be called up? Would they have to do any kind to monthly or yearly training? Would they be under contract for these services? If the President calls them to action, would their jobs be held like guys and gals serving in the Guard and Reserves? What would their wages be based on? Would they have to pass a physical and mental evaluation? Would there be an age limit for these civilian's that wanted to serve?
I know many civilian's that from some reason can't join the military, but that would love to have the chance to still serve their country. I feel, that if they are mentally, physically sound, they would be allowed to do something like this. I do think there needs to be an upper age limit, but I am not sure where I would set that. I know many former military guys and gals in their 50's that would jump on something like this. Would 55 be to old? Would 60 or 65 as long as they could pass a minimum physical requirement?
There is a lot there to think about. I will be watching and listening in the coming days and weeks to see if this is outlined better. Once it is, then I will post my thoughts and comments.

Howdy...i dig your blog...thanks for the help out there...
I did the same thing as you...i noted the civilian volunteer corp quote also...
I believe they will have to hit it all...And i as a former medical person in the Navy,A Laboratory Technologist,EMT and a CDL holder with endorsements... ...would proudly serve as would my wife...currently a Nurse in the Air Force...
My own opinion is this, with the country split in half and a quarter on each isle side being wealthy, it is up to us middle class to keep the country afloat with the hard work we can offer! Too many chiefs not enough indians is always a problem when it comes to things and a civilian corps needs workers not people sitting around making a check!!!!....
But hats off to you...I am sitting here in Italy at an air force base wishing i could forward deploy but i have to stand bye the hooch for the wife can be moved at any minute...!!!...god bless...BE SAFE!!!

HI
I had listened to the State of the Union address, earlier this week.
When I was 25 yrs younger, I would have loved to had served in some level of military or hospitality or care giving
I was looking online today at many links that would help me to focus in on what all does go on on a day to day basis regarding the war
I see the news, I hear about the violence and attackes and injuries to the Troops and also civilians
My dad is a retired Army Service...my oldest bro would have enlisted had the Draft not have stopped just prior to his time
I was right in line after him, and I had had 2 sisters marry into the military prior to my Brothers..
I didnt join but I Have a wonderful Daughter who is now on her way into working w/ military of all sorts, here in the States through VOA
I have enjoyed looking at your links and writings
I wish that I had come upon this information sooner.
I will revisit.
Thanks!
