Discount-Mats Disrespects Troops

SGT Jason Hess from the 1st Cavalry Division only wanted some better mats for his troops when he emailed a company called Discount Floor Mats for information:

To Whom it may concern:

Do you ship to APO addresses?
I'm in the 1st Cavalry Division stationed in Iraq and we are trying to order some mats but we are looking for who ships to APO first.

SGT Hess

Seems like a fair question. There are many companies that don't/won't ship to APO addresses for many reasons. The main reason is that once the packages leave the states, they leave the purview of the United States Postal Service and can't be guaranteed. Some companies don't want to takes that risk. But, Discount-Mats.com has other reasons they don't ship to APO:

SGT Hess,

We do not ship to APO addresses, and even if we did, we would NEVER ship to Iraq. If you were sensible, you and your troops would pull out of Iraq.

They have the right to refuse service to anyone, you don't have the right however to harass the company by publishing their information and urging people to basically email bomb and phone harass them.

The above visitor is in error they do not have a right to refuse service. That is called discriminating. In Business law that is illegal. To voice their views or opinions is one thing. To violate the law is another. Sad, how men and women shed their blood for people to have freedom to act like that. I wonder if there would've been any Jews left if we would've acted like that in World War II.

I'm from Cedarburg, WI and while I cannot speak for everyone in this state I can tell you that most people are behind what you do and truly care about your well being.

The person who refused service has been fired and the company is under a lot of stress over this incident.

FYI - the owner and person who was fired are both of middle eastern decent. Go figure. . .

Take care and come home safe.

You're quite the trouble maker aren't you? Bang the drum a bit louder about what you do why don't you. Don't incite trouble just because everyone doesn't share your same view !

Umm Barry? If you don't like it don't read it. It's her blog, her opinions. Don't like it? Hey, we live in a FREE country, don't read it.

Thank-you again Cindy for providing idiots like Barry to voice their meaningless opinions.

    Just Saw This At Discount-Mats.com

    Dear Visitor,

Due to the recent actions of a member within our company, we have been experiencing many difficulties. We have been bombarded by emails and phone calls literally within 12 hours of the event occurring, which sent us in a state of complete shock.

Our technical difficulties were experienced due to severe e-mail and phone call overload.

As a company, we would like to say that it is against company policy to treat anyone disrespectfully, and we condemn any such behavior. The member who was responsible for stating their personal opinion in a disrespectful manner is no longer associated and no longer working with Discount-Mats.com

The members within our company strongly disagreed with the views and actions of this member, and once again, his personal opinion does not reflect the opinions of the company.

We, as a company, are sorry for the events that took place and we do not condone un-professional, rude behavior from any members within our company.

We are trying to get our website back up as soon as possible.

If you are a potential or current customer, or if you would like to leave your comments, please contact us via phone or e-mail below:

    New E-mail Address: support @ discount-mats.com

    Phone Number: 414-736-8394

We are getting a lot of phone calls and we expect many emails, so please don't be surprised if the mailbox is full. Please try again later as we are constantly trying to clear our phone and e-mail boxes.

I kind of feel bad for them. I don't think the company should have been penalized for the actions of a single employee. Your retaliation hit back at people who weren't involved, is all I'm saying. If one of my employees offended a customer (and I agree, that WAS offensive) I would hope that the offended customer would not use their power or publicity to literally knock me out of business and subject me to harassment.

A company has the responsibility to make sure that it's employees act in accordance with their views and ethics. When the employee, does not, then he should be let go, as the company did. I did not see, but heard, about the father of the owner of the company doing an interview on CNN. With what I as told was said, I give the company credit for firing this guy. Doing the right thing will pay off for them as well as all this publicity. They are now known by people that would have otherwise, never known of them. Doing the right thing, will also get them business.

True, and Im realizing that when you posted that entry you weren't anticipating LiveLeak hosting one of your videos and having your site traffic soar. In other words, your LiveLeak generated web traffic is probably what sent the discount-mats phonecalls through the roof...unless your blog generally gets a shit ton of readers. The video was very gripping.

Nate, This article was posted many places. Many people don't realize there is a huge number of pro-troop supporters. Unlike the anti-war crowd (I won't mention names, they get too much publicity as it is) we are a quiet group. However I assure you, if you disrespect our troops, we will strike back. And we will be effective.

Nate, you are right. I had never heard of LiveLeak till yesterday. I was just following some information that I get with my site meter and found that my video was over there. I had no idea that t would lead to this. My blog has always been a quiet one. I post things about my life and the readers read. I have had lots of readers over the last 3 years and never had this kind of stuff on this scale. I just moved my blog from Yahoo to here this past summer but it still remained a quiet place for my friends and family to keep up with what I was doing.....till now.
